Curse of Jessica Simpson: Nashville Edition

Jessica Simpson is getting back to her country roots. There’s one problem though, she doesn’t have any. Jess released her first country-themed album yesterday and to celebrate she did her best channeling of June Carter Cash and performed on Good Morning America.

This wasn’t exactly the star performance she was hoping for. It was a hot country mess and no one is going to rush out to buy the twangy CD of career-threatening tracks based on this performance.

It appears that the Curse of Jessica Simpson extends to not only Tony Romo, but to the pop tartlet herself.

She started to intro the song in the most forced country accent imaginable – think Madonna’s British accident. She says, “thank you guys for making this song number wuhn.” She slips into Country Jessica only at the end of the sentence. Now, I’m from Louisiana, I know country. If this was sincere, it would have gone something like this -- “thank yew guys fur makin’ this sawng numbur wuhn.”

She then stopped the song and started over. But, that was the least of her problems really. She went on to turn “With You,” a normally descent song, into country caterwauling. Jessie – you’re trying too hard.

You know somewhere Nick Lachey is having a good laugh about all this. Oh wait… he isn’t doing anything at all with his career. Never mind.

Here’s the video.

Some people are going to say that just I don’t get country music. Simply not true. I’m that black guy that owns the Garth Brooks box set, several Dixie Chicks CDS and even have my picture with Toby Keith (of all people) after a concert. It’s not my favorite music, but I appreciate it for its merit. Real country – not Simpsonized twanginess.
