Obama's "American Prayer"

Just in time for the Democratic National Convention, Barack Obama’s “American Prayer” video debuts to the masses. In a word… craptastic. That’s actually a good thing. It’s something that is so high on the cheese factor that it’s kind of catchy and affective. Think early Britney Spears – as bad as “Hit Me Baby One More Time” was, you know every single word.

This video is like a “We Are the World” for the Obama set. There are notable cameos from some of my favorites; like Cyndi Lauper, Macy Gray and Joss Stone (more on Joss in a minute). But, there are some head-scratch-worthy moments thrown in there for good measure. Barry Manilow? Pamela Anderson? Perez Hilton? Are these really necessary endorsements? You know, I was thinking just the other day, “I wonder who Pam Anderson is voting for.”

Back to Joss Stone now. God knows I love the British songstress. I am not only a fan of her music, but I think she is amazingly gorgeous, elegant and eloquent. I love that she uses her star power for activism, but what exactly is her “American Prayer?” She’s a Brit. Yes, the entire world has a stake in this election, but does she really have an “American Prayer?” Maybe she does – who knows? I’ll just let that one slide, because she’s Joss Stone and I love her craft.

A few other notable appearances close to my heart: New Orleans, South Carolina and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. They throw Margaret Cho in there for good measure and it’s like someone created a video just for me! Now if Gavin DeGraw popped up, I’d know they were reading my mind.

As much as I poke fun at this video, there is one line that gives me chills... in a good way. "When you get to the top of the mountain, will you tell me what you see? When you get to the top of the mountain, remember me." Those lyrics actually move me. We've come a long way!

Notable no-shows: Oprah, Bill and Hillary? Now that would have been affective.

Remember the original unauthorized Obama Video? (I Love this song!)

I met Obama girl at one of the debates. She was a sweet lady and stunning. We asked her if she had met Barack Obama and at the time she had not, but she'll be in Denver for the convention. Good Luck Obama Girl.
